Find a fair or event
The home page is a calendar of the current month.
- Red marks a fair and brown marks an event, such as a sale, show or class. A fair running over several days shows on every day it runs.
- Tap a day to see everything on that day, then tap a name to open its page. On a computer you can click a name in the calendar straight away.
- Use the arrows beside the month name, or swipe left and right on a phone, to see other months. Today brings you back to this month.
- Coming up, on the right (or below the calendar on a phone), lists the next fairs and events in date order.
- To look up a fair by name, town or county, use the search box. All fairs lists everything A to Z by county.
Dates marked unconfirmed have not been checked with the organiser yet. Dates marked confirmed have been checked with the organiser or an official source. Always check with the organiser before you travel or move horses.
Read a fair page
- The box at the top gives the dates, times, venue, Eircode and organiser.
- Every year shows past and future years. Tap a year to see that year’s dates and its photos and videos.
- On a fair page, Events at this fair lists the sales, classes and shows held during it.
- Getting there and on the day covers trading times, parking, dogs, entry and facilities, when the organiser has given them.
- Add to calendar saves the dates to your phone’s calendar. Share sends the page to a friend.
- The questions at the bottom of the page answer common things like parking and start times.
Get directions and use the map
- Tap Directions and choose Google Maps, Apple Maps (on iPhone, iPad and Mac) or Waze. Your map app opens with the route to the fair, ready to start navigation.
- The map on the page shows exactly where the fair is. Pinch, double-tap, or use the + and − buttons to zoom in and out, and drag to look around.
- Tap the red pin for the address and a directions button. Back to the pin recentres the map.
- If the map cannot load because there is no signal, the address, Eircode and Directions button still work.
Install the app and use it with no signal
HorseFairs is a web app: it installs from the website, with no app store, and it is free.
- On a phone or tablet, a yellow bar at the top of the page offers to install it. Tap Install and follow the pictures for your phone.
- iPhone and iPad (Safari): tap Share, choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
- Android (Chrome): tap the ⋮ menu, choose Install app, then tap Install.
- If you opened the site from Facebook or another app, first open it in Safari or Chrome. Apps’ built-in browsers cannot install.
- Closed the yellow bar with ×? It will not come back. Use Install the app on your phone at the bottom of any page instead.
Once you have opened the calendar, it is saved on your phone and works without signal. So do the fair pages you have visited, and pages for fairs in the next 30 days. A dark bar at the top tells you when you are offline.
Get fair reminders
Your phone can remind you about fairs in your area, so you never miss one.
- Tap Get fair reminders, on the calendar page, on any fair page, or at the bottom of every page.
- Choose the area: all of Ireland (32 counties), the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, a province (Munster, Leinster, Connacht or Ulster), or only the counties you tick.
- Tap Turn on reminders and choose Allow when your phone asks about notifications.
Every morning HorseFairs checks the calendar. You get a notification a week before, the day before and on the morning of each fair or event in your area, and never more than one notification a day. Tap it to open the fair page.
iPhone and iPad: reminders work once you have installed HorseFairs on your home screen (iOS 16.4 or later). Open it from the home screen, then turn on reminders.
To change the area or stop reminders, tap the same button again. No account is needed.
You only need to sign in to add things, upload, rate, comment or report. There is no password.
- Tap Sign in and enter your email address.
- We email you a 6-digit code. It works for 10 minutes. Check your spam folder if you cannot see it.
- Type the code and you are signed in. The first time, choose the name shown next to your photos and comments. Your email is never shown.
Add a fair or event
- Tap Add fair / event at the top of any page.
- Choose A fair for the whole gathering, or An event for one thing on a set day. If the event happens inside a fair, start typing the fair’s name and pick it. You can also use Add an event at this fair on the fair’s page.
- Give the name without the year, a one-line summary and a description.
- Add the dates and times, and where you saw them, such as the organiser’s Facebook post or a poster.
- For the location, enter the Eircode or address and tap Find on map. Then drag the pin onto the exact spot, such as the field entrance. On site? Tap Use my location.
- Add the organiser and anything people ask about: trading times, parking, dogs, entry and facilities.
- Tap Send for checking. A moderator checks it, usually within a day, and it then appears on the calendar.
If a fair is already listed, add this year’s dates on its page with Add dates for another year, rather than adding it twice.
Add photos and videos
- On a fair or event page, tap Add photos or Add a video.
- Pick the year the photos are from.
- Choose your files. You can add as many photos as you like, and up to 5 videos at a time, each up to 2 minutes and 200 MB.
- Add a caption if you like, and tick the box to confirm you have permission to share them.
- Tap Upload. A bar shows the progress of each file. Keep the page open until they all say done.
Photos are made smaller on your phone before they upload, which saves your data, and the location hidden inside them is removed. Everything is checked by a moderator before it appears. Please read the photo and video policy, especially about photos of people and children.
Rate, comment and report
- Rate a fair from 1 to 5 stars. You can change your rating later.
- Comment with tips for other visitors, like parking, what was on, or how the day went. Comments appear after a moderator has seen them.
- Report anything that is wrong: a fair that is not happening, wrong dates, a duplicate, or a photo of you or your child shared without permission. Use the Report links on the page. Privacy reports are dealt with first.
- Suggest a correction at the bottom of a page to fix any details. A moderator checks the change.
For organisers
- Listing your fair or event is free. Add it as above and keep the dates up to date each year.
- Link your official website or Facebook page so people can check the latest news.
- Want your dates marked confirmed? Send us the official notice through the contact page.

Your account and privacy
- Account, at the top of the page when you are signed in, shows your name, your listings and your uploads, and whether each is waiting, live or not approved.
- If a moderator does not publish something you sent, you get an email saying why, and you can ask us to look again.
- You can delete your account at any time. This permanently removes your photos, videos, comments and ratings.
- See the privacy policy and cookie policy for the details.
